Students' Welcome

Message from The Head Girl and Head Boy

Welcome to our fantastic school. To all pupils and parents thinking of joining us, we want you to know that Ryedale School is an amazing school to learn and have fun. There are so many amazing opportunities, and we can assure you, you’ll be welcomed with open arms!

We have a huge range of extra-curricular clubs, led by our incredible staff members, meaning there is something for everybody to immerse yourselves in and do something you enjoy with people who share the same passion.

The sport and performing arts opportunities really are something to shout about! Through sporting events students get to work as a team, have fun and grow in confidence in the dozens of House matches and lunchtime and after school clubs on offer. We compete to a high level in a range of sports including football, netball, basketball, cross country, hockey and rugby. Some of our students have even been selected to play for national teams. The music department is amazing and as well as performing to local audiences, the Ryedale Straynotes have been lucky enough to perform on a tour of Belgium.

Every teacher is so passionate about the subject they teach - the teaching is outstanding. The heads of subject departments support and encourage you to reach your full potential and ensure you have lots of fun whilst doing so.

We look after our new students really well. We run a Buddies system, so Year 7s get a Year 11 student to meet with weekly and to look after them with things like homework, getting organised and making new friends. Our team of Prefects are on hand every day at break and lunchtime and on the school buses to make sure everything runs smoothly. We also have students in a range of leadership roles including ambassadors for wellbeing and for supporting younger students to read more confidently.

'Ryedale School is a special place where you will be able to develop as a person, guided by the Ryedale values of honesty, kindness and respect. You’ll be able to make life-long friends and embrace new experiences. Be curious in your learning - want to know more - knowledge of the world is so powerful, and of course, make sure you work hard each and every day!" Emily Scott, Head Girl

"Ryedale School really is a wonderful place for you to learn and grow as an individual.  My time here has been the best years of my life and I am honoured to be able to complete my final year at Ryedale as Head Boy" David Screeton, Head Boy
