Moving Up to Ryedale Information 2022

Each year, we are pleased to be able to accommodate a high number of families who make the positive choice to send their children to Ryedale School from outside of our catchment area. We are confident we will be able to offer places to all current Year 6s who would like a place in our school from September 2022. Please contact Ms Stephanie French via email: sfrench@ryedalelearningtrust.co.uk for details on how to secure a place.

We are very much hoping to be able to conduct our transition programme on our school site this year, (subject to Government restrictions). Our comprehensive programme of induction activities will enable our new Year 7 cohort for September 2022 to experience life at Ryedale School, gain confidence with the move to secondary school and make new friends.

Planned programme of events:

Primary Presentation Evenings:

These evenings are the first step in the transition process and involve the Senior Leadership Team of Ryedale School presenting on ‘Moving up to Ryedale’ in six of our feeder primaries. We cover everything from student learning to uniform to extra-curricular opportunities and at the end of the presentations there is opportunity to chat to the staff over coffee and biscuits.

Each presentation begins at 6.30pm and is approximately one hour in duration.

St Hilda’s C of E VC School, Ampleforth – Tuesday 28th September 2021
Helmsley CP School – Wednesday 29th September 2021
Sinnington CP School – Thursday 30th September 2021
Kirkbymoorside CP School – Tuesday 5th October 2021
Nawton CP School – Wednesday 6th October 2021
Gillamoor C of E VC School – Thursday 7th October

We welcome families living out of catchment to attend any of the above evenings. Please select the most convenient date and venue to yourselves and inform Ms Wilkinson’s PA, via email to book your place: sfrench@ryedalelearningtrust.co.uk

Following the Presentation Evenings, parents must register their preference of secondary school with County. The deadline for applications is the 31st October and it is essential that all families meet this deadline. Parents are informed of the allocation list at the beginning of March via a letter from County.

Year 6 Literacy Week

Once we have our confirmed cohort for September, we write to all parents in early May with final arrangements for the forthcoming events. All of our students receive an invitation to a Literacy Day which takes place during May.

On this day our students are given the opportunity to take part in a range of literacy based activities. In addition to meeting key staff, staying for lunch in the school canteen and meeting Year 6 students from other primaries, the Year 6’s get to take out their first reading book from our school library!

  • Week commencing Monday 23rd May 2022

  • Induction Day – Wednesday 15th June 202

  • Open Evening – Thursday 30th June 2022
  • Activities Afternoon – Friday 1st July 2022

Please see below the video that we prepared for Year 6 pupils last year when our induction programme had to take place remotely. You should find this valuable in giving a flavour of our school.
